The ‘Ultimate List’ of things to keep in mind while constructing your Kids Room

Toddlers grow up extremely fast and the formative years are extremely important.

Having a room for your child is important and doing it up in the correct way is even more important. When given their own structured, safe play zones, they learn to play independently and confidently too.

Even small spaces when planned smartly can be utilised very well and can create well organised play rooms for kids. Here’s how!

Things to keep in mind :

1. Make sure you have free space for movement and play in the room

2. Have enough, planned storage for books, clothes and extra things

3. Ensure that the furniture is sized as per child’s age – like study table, small chair etc

4. Make sure their toys, books and art supplies are placed in a way that they are accessible to the kids

5. Do not compromise on storage space

Keeping reading to find out how you can achieve all of the above.

Space Saving Hacks for Kids Rooms

1. Get a smaller bed – we swapped our king size bed for a princess size bed. It saves space and makes room for movement.

2. For Extra Storage get Hydraulic Storage under the bed and get Loft storage where possible. It is perfect to store extras and keep it easy to access.

3. Montessori Shelves are a great resource for independent play but definitely not the only one. They take up too much space and store hardly anything. So switch them up for smaller open shelves around the bed.

4. Book Shelf: I love a flat, front facing book shelf for a toddler/pre-schooler. It can be squeezed in any corner or niche in the room and is easy for kids to access. It saves space and gives easy access to kids to keep books.

5. Use a movable, light table and chair. Till upto 4/5 years of age, I highly recommend using a small table and chair which is light and easy to move around the room. This gives you the freedom to have free spaces for free play.

6. Stackable Storage Boxes: I love stackable storage boxes for keeping toys in an organised manner.

7. Tray Drawers: Thin 5 inch tray drawers are a saviour when it comes to storing undergarments, masks, socks and other essentials for kids so they don’t get messy.

8. A Pin up Board: This is perfect to display kids artwork, activity planners and schedulers and small craft projects as well as beautify the room.

9. Art Supply Trolly or Accessible Pen Stands: A small 2-3 tiered trolley (like your vegetable trolley in the kitchen) or a rod on which you can hang multiple pen stands is a great way to save space and yet give easy access to kids so they can explore.

10. Have height adjustable or graded shelves in the cupboards. Instead of keeping all shelves the same height, I prefer to keep 3-4 different height options to store different things like a thin tray drawer, a medium one for clothes, a deep one for bedding etc.
