Maa Saraswati is known as the mother of knowledge and wisdom. She is the mother of Vedas, music, craft, wisdom, arts, and auspiciousness. Thus, it is important to teach students about her and instil the habit of seeking her blessings before they study.
We know her by different names such as :-
- Vak Devi (the goddess of speech)
- Sakala Kaladhistatri( goddess bestowing all the arts)
She is depicted as a beautiful Goddess with four arms, wearing a spotless white saree and seated on a white lotus. Her four arms represent the four aspects of human personality in learning: mind, intellect, alertness, and ego. Alternatively, these four arms also represent the 4 Vedas.
Praying to Maa Saraswati is a great way for kids to start their daily studies or school and express their intention towards learning. Guiding your children to recite slokas every day is a good habit to teach them right from the childhood as it will benefit them even when they are grown up.

Shloka 1 :-॥ Saraswati Mantra – Vidya Mantra for Students ॥
सरस्वती नमस्तुभ्यं वरदे कामरूपिणि।
विद्यारम्भं करिष्यामि सिद्धिर्भवतु मे सदा।।।
Meaning:-
O Saraswatī, salutations for you,
O Giver of boons, O Kāmarūpiṇī ,
I am going to start studies, may success be mine, always.
This shloka is found to improve memory, power and concentration in studies.
Shloka 2 :- ॥ Saraswati Gayatri Mantra ॥
ॐ वागीश्वर्यै विद्महे वाग्वादीन्ये दीमहे तन्नः सरस्वती प्रचोदयात ॥
Meaning:-
Om let me meditate on the goddess of speech. Oh, wife of Lord Brahma, give me higher intellect and let Goddess Vani illuminate my mind.
Chanting this mantra can sharpen the capabilities of students and calm the senses of those who feel panic before the exams and other big events
ॐ वागीश्वर्यै विद्महे
Shloka3:- ॥ Saraswati Mantra for Knowledge ॥
सरस्वति महाभागे विद्ये कमललोचने ।
विद्यारूपे विशालाक्षि विद्यां देहि नमोस्तुते ॥
Meaning: Oh great Maa Saraswati, the lotus-eyed personified knowledge. Oh, I request you to shower me with all the powers and glories of all knowledge that exist. She has large eyes, taking the form of the whole universe.
Those who have difficulties with their learning can resort to this mantra
Shloka 4:-॥ Saraswati Mantra For Wealth and Knowledge ॥
ॐ अर्हं मुख कमल वासिनी पापात्म क्षयम् कारी
वद वद वाग्वादिनी सरस्वती ऐं ह्रीं नमः स्वाहा ।
Recite this Saraswati Mantra for wealth and knowledge
Meaning:-
May Maa Saraswati bless us with wisdom and strength.
Shloka 5:-॥ Saraswati Mantra For Enhancing Intelligence ॥
ॐ ऐं ह्रीं श्रीं वाग्देव्यै सरस्वत्यै नमः ॥
Meaning:-
I bow down to the Maa Saraswati, the goddess of speech.
By reciting this Saraswati Mantra enhance intelligence, creativity and knowledg
Don’t start with all in just one day!
Let them be thorough with one and then move on to the next one. Follow their pace and focus on creating interest.
Explain the kids the meaning and significance of the shlokas for them to believe in the power of it and it will also help them continue this habit forever.
Children learn a lot more by observing than by preaching, so model the right behaviour, participate with them.
