Kids all ages are going to school after 2 years. Be it the first time or not, it is all new to them after such a long break. Separation anxiety and tears during good-byes are normal in such a scenario. But what will help reduce the tears is to focus more on the coming back rather than the separation itself.
The below statements have helped us reduce tears during school drop off:
- We will play your favorite game when you are back home.
- You can tell any problems you may have at school to the teacher and she will help you
- You have a surprise for you in your tiffin! Will you share it with your friends?
- Mumma will be waiting for you at home or will be there to pick you up at school.
- You will learn something new today and I can’t wait for you to come back and tell me what it was.
Try to say these instead of things like “You will have fun at school.” Or “You will make so many new friends today at school”. When they cry, their focus is not that school is going to be boring, it is the fact that they are leaving you. So focus on the re-uniting and what you will do when you meet again.
Do try it and tell me if it worked for you in comments!
